Ballet slippers, bangs, and lots of red lipstick; role models in the '90s.

When I was a little girl, I wore ballet slippers and shiny pink leotards. When I was a big little girl, I wore bangs and t-shirt ties. When I was a grown little girl, I wore ponytails, Cross Colors, and L.A. Gear... I always wanted the light-up pair, but they weren't sold at Payless. Looking back at the dancer I was slowly shaping myself into with Miss Linda's beginning ballet, Studio 81 Jazz, and the youth center tap class, I remember the women I wanted to grow-up to become. Janet, Dolly, Paula, Debbie, and Madonna. No need for last names with this kind of inspiration. So tonight I urge you to remember who you wanted to be like way back when you used tape to record over tapes in your mom's boom box, and look to see who you have become, and foresee who you are becoming.

Catching up: Migrating South, Keeping Austin Weird

     Still catching up over winter break? I am, too. This summer The Shauna Show supported the Beauty Biz Camp (found here) and relocated from the East Coast to the Deep South. Currently residing in Austin, Texas, I am helping to Keep Austin Weird  by supporting local artists, local grocers, and festivals!! Austin is a beautiful little gem in the Great State. Everyone told me I would fall in love with Austin, but I was skeptical. I missed the California sun while living in DC, and I loved every second of living in the Big Apple. Alas, Austin is the perfect mix of country and city dwelling. Here are is a hodge-podge of things I love about Austin. I'm looking forward to featuring Austin women in upcoming episodes! It's Bizness Baby!

Hello Studio Audience!!

#realwomenmakechange in training!

Wow, this season is busy! I have this awesome project for young women aspiring to work within the beauty, fashion, and/or business industries to tell you about! AND... some really cool people to introduce.
BeautyBiz Camp is a three-week experience for young women to learn, develop, network, and grow as a business woman within the vastly diverse field of beauty business. This amazing project, innovated and directed by Ms. Corynne Corbet, will be hosted in NYC in the Chelsea neighborhood. Guest speakers from Carol's Daughter, Elle Magazine, Essence Magazine, Clinique and more will be there! Dr. Asiah Mason of IRIS, Inc. will be directing the campers' activities and coordinating with the camp mentors (like me!) so make sure all the young women are developing skills and content knowledge... but also having fun! I have been invited to facilitate as camp mentor!
